A High Court in Benin city has sentenced to death a house wife and her lover for killing ,Mr Victor Nsongbunyo, an indigene of Akwa Ibom state and the Deputy Manager at the Nigeria Petroleum Development company (NPDC) in Benin,Edo state.
The lady identified as Eniobong Isonguyo mother of three is reportedly married to the late NPDC staff but was having an affair with one Pastor Udoka Ukachukwu a close family friend and the general overseer of a her church (name withheld).
As gathered from the court sitting,trouble started when Mrs Eniobong became pregnant for her lover pastor Udoka, the deceased was said to have visited home to complain to both families after suspecting that the current pregnancy.. The families resolved that a DNA would be conducted after delivery, this arrangement infuriated Eniobong which led her into plotting and killing her husband together with her lover.
The plan was for the pastor to wait by deceased usual route and ask for a ride which eventually paid off as Mr Victor eventually stopped and gave the pastor a ride along Sapele Road in Benin city. During the trip, the pastor brought out a sharp object and hit him on his neck before opening the petrol tank where he sipped out fuel and burnt him beyond recognition.
The wife of the deceased quickly visited the police to report her missing husband, after visiting his office and a brief stop at the bank to withdraw the sum of 4million naira from her husband’s account. However, police was informed about a burnt car with driver burnt beyond recognition somewhere along Sapele Road, autopsy report shows it was Mr Nsongbunyo.
Further investigation fetched out the pastor who had burnt injuries on his face and body, he later confessed to the police and Eniobong was arrested .The High Court judge found both suspects guilty and they were sentenced to death by hanging,Eniobong who was four months pregnant later gave birth in Benin prison before execution.
